The club is absolutely delighted to announce that former Collingwood and West Coast defender Josh Smith will play with the club in 2020. A native of Queensland, Josh was taken by Collingwood in the 2016 rookie draft. He made an eye-catching debut in that years’ Anzac Day fixture, kicking the first goal of the game and being named among the best players. He did not miss another game that season, finishing a very credible 7th in their best & fairest and being awarded the Harry Collier Trophy as the best first year player. Most good judges thought Josh was very unlucky to be delisted at the end of the 2018 season but he was handed a lifeline by the West Coast Eagles, who drafted him as a rookie. Josh was good enough to break into the reigning premiers star-studded line-up and finished his career with 34 games at the highest level.

Josh is described as a “running machine” with incredible aerobic capacity. He broke the Eagles 2km time trial record and will be a real handful in the VAFA. Josh is qualified teacher’s aide and in further great news for the De La Salle community, will be on the teaching staff at the College next year.

Welcome Josh!
