Opposition: St Bedes
Perfect conditions greeted the players at Waverly Oval today. There had been some player movement between the other U19 teams, so some players had to slot into new roles and positions.
St Bedes started strong, and it was evident that they were a quick running side. Our backline looked strong and composed with ball in hand. While we were able to get a few clearances and a couple of shots at goal, it was clear that we had to focus on negating their mids and tighten up our defence.
The 2nd quarter was more of the same, our mids were working incredibly hard, but our backline was put under a lot of pressure with multiple entries from the opposition. Pleasingly, the backline took a high number of intercept marks and made smart decisions when clearing the area.
Highlights from the 3rd quarter were that DeLa was tighter around stoppages and restricted their supply. Forwards were presenting well with an open forward line, but could only manage one major for this quarter.
As has been evident with this team, their effort was outstanding, and the 4th quarter was no exception. We witnessed some great passages of play and some clean ball movement, which resulted in a couple of classy goals. In the end, St Bedes were too good on the day.
