Match Report
DLS scored early with Indovino goaling from 15m out. Play swung between defences, until Algeri, goaled from the forward pocket ruck scramble some 23 minutes in. Ajax quickly responded & with their 2nd, directly from the centre clearance, scores were equal at 2.2-14 each.
AJAX got off to a good start with goals at the 5 & 6 minute mark, before Liam Wood marked in FRONT of the pack, and goaled, 8 minutes in. AJAX were winning many contests with DLS 2nd to the ball. AJAX goaled to establish a game high lead of 13 points until Seb Filipovic, who was having a good game, marked & scored from the forward pocket, near on half time with score line DLS 4.4=28 to AJAX 5.4=34.
Our defence was performing well under constant pressure with Luke Healy prominent. DLS, playing much better created goals to Indovino & Fisher, both from frees. Frenetic scrambles in front of goal enabled Curtis Day & Jack Gava to score off the ground.
DLS dominated the 3rd quarter, scoring 4.7 & keeping AJAX scoreless!
AJAX stared Q4 strongly, but their opening goal was completely swamped with DLS goals to Fisher, Mackie, Pat Russell (his 1st in Snr footy)& Seb Filipovic, giving DLS a match high lead of 43. AJAX persisted and were rewarded with goals at the 20 minute mark. Matt Hill’s snap out of the pack was quickly matched by AJAX’s goal, close to siren time
DLS will be happy with this win, considering the number of players still unavailable. That notwithstanding, it is a credit to players, who have come into the side & performed beyond expectations.
