Match Report

The build up for Round 1 had been huge. With a very productive pre-season, and excellent numbers recruited into the squad, the players were eager to pull on their new jumpers and make a statement.

With seven debutants (all bottom agers) and the rest of the squad made up of familiar faces from last season (which include 3 sets of brothers), the players ran onto our home turf with a spring in their step. We won the toss and elected to plough into a northerly, which was predicted to strengthen throughout the day.

First quarter was full of energy and run, which you would expect, but it was our pressure on the opposition that was making it difficult for the visitors. A couple of great team goals from DeLa saw us in the lead at quarter time.

A similar result in the second quarter for us, however Uni Blues found some run and managed to squeeze in a couple of majors.

Our tackle count was ever increasing due to our hard working backs and mids, and as a result, Uni Blues were getting frustrated with their limited shots of goal. Highlight of the third quarter for DeLa was a terrific bit of link up play that resulted in an impressive team goal.

DeLa maintained their work rate and stayed composed in the last quarter to get a pleasing win, with solid contributions from a long list of players. It was particularly pleasing to see all our first gamers look very comfortable in this division.
