Old Brighton vs De La Salle

Match Report

The De La U19s Blues travelled to Brighton Beach oval with a squad of 20 that include the return of Harper and the inclusion of Tyquin. Brighton got off to a quick start kicking the first two goals against the wind. Cross was marking strongly in defence and supported well by McMahon and Mounas with numerous run and carry efforts to release the pressure. De La fought back with a speedy weave through traffic on the run goal by McBeth and mark conversations to Murray and A.Liakakos to be one point down at the first break.

The second quarter was a real arm wrestle with De La’s backline of Mounas, Cross, Stewart, McMahon, L.Liakakos all marking well, switching and driving the ball back into the midfield. Harper and Murray presented well up forward however neither team was able to assert their dominance on the game and De La were 9 points down at half time.

The third quarter saw a more physical contest with both teams moving the ball quickly in the windy conditions. O’Meara, Tory-Toth, McNidder, Wain and Pickles all competed hard winning clearances and the 50:50 contests. Brighton was able to convert their opportunities with three goals to one to take a 20 point lead into the final quarter.

The boys started the final quarter well moving the ball quickly at every opportunity. De La kicked the first which started in the backline with Cross, transitioned through the middle involving McNidder, then A.Liakakos and ended with a cleaver roving goal to Fisicaro. Despite a set shot conversation to Pickles and a composed on the run goal to Wain, De La was unable to close the gap going down by 21 points.
