Match Report

Wind very strong & favouring the old Dairy Bell end to which we were kicking. Effective tap by Sean Fisher & clearance saw Jake Williams streaming towards goal, but unfortunately his kick went wide. DLS was dominating play, but could not impact on scoreboard. The defence, lead by Luke Healy, Steve Karvellas & Sefton McGraw repelled several promising forward thrusts. Strong marking contest at CHF saw Simeone Burrill freed, from which he kicked DLS 1st goal at the 6 minute mark. Play was of a high standard, despite the wind &
when Tom Filipovic goaled on the run at the 9 minute mark, DLS got reward for its efforts. Tom Docherty took a fine intercept mark & passed to Jake Williams for our 3rd at the 14 minute mark. Tense contested footy ensued with St Bernards missing several gettable opportunities. 1st quarter ended with DLS leading 3.2.20: 0.5.5

A torrential storm impacted the 2nd quarter, but St Bernards, now going to the better end, handled the changed conditions better, goaling at the 5 minute mark. 10 minutes of tough play ensued, with both teams contesting fiercely. A great pass by Will Mackie found Campbell Bedford at CHF for DLS 4th goal at the 15 minute mark. St Bernards responded soon after, but DLS looked to be going in to the half time break in a comfortable position, given the conditions.

A St Bernards goal the 27 minute mark saw the scores level at the break: DLS 4.2.26 St Bernards 3.8.26 The 3rd quarter opened with bright sunshine & little wind advantage. Play was very much in the rugby scrum mould as St Bernards slowed the game right down! At the 7 minute mark Adrian Indovino soccered the ball to Will Mackie in the goal square for our
final goal for the game. St Bernards responded, some 10 minutes later, giving DLS a 2 point margin at 3⁄4 time: 5.4.34 : 4.8.32

The final quarter was a complete slog, scrum to scrum. Players of both teams, gave their all! Scores were even for much of this quarter, but St Bernards goaled at the 19 minute mark to seal the tight match by 8 Points! A very fine effort by the boys considering the relative positions on the Ladder. Congratulations to all involved!
