Seniors Match Report: Round 5 2022

May 8, 2022

Round 5 saw us host Old Carey at home. After registering out first win last
week we were looking to build some momentum into the season.

The first quarter was a tough battle. Kicking into a stiff breeze we did
well to get the game on our terms with control around clearance and denying
Carey much ball with our possession and link up play. We took a 2 goal to 1
advantage into the quarter time break.

Our second quarter was some of the best footy we played all year. Our hunt
and thirst for the contest was excellent and we moved the ball efficiently
with deep dangerous entries into our forward half. What was most pleasing
was our front half pressure which allowed us to play the majority of the
quarter in our forward 50. Kicking 7 goals whilst keeping the opposition to
one behind meant we had a healthy 50 point lead at the main break.

The players were challenged at halftime to put together a four quarter
effort. We knew Carey would respond after halftime, and they seemed to have
the game on their terms for the first 6 mins of the quarter. What was most
pleasing was our maturity to absorb the pressure and respond with fantastic
defensive actions which halted the opposition momentum and we were able to
regain ascendancy for the remainder of the quarter registering 4 goals to 2.

Our final quarter was just as pleasing as the previous three quarters. Our
pressure remained at a high level and as such we were able to force turnover
and counter attack with efficient ball movement as we managed 6 last quarter
goals to register a healthy 87 point win.

A great four quarter performance and now the benchmark in terms of effort
and intensity. We looked forward to our next encounter, Williamstown at
Williamstown next week.

Results: DE LA 16.5.101  vs OLD CAREY 4.8.32
