Under 19 Golds Match Report: Round 9 2022

Jun 6, 2022

U19 GOLDS v PRESTON BULLANTS

Jabber won the toss again which gave us the advantage of the breeze in the first quarter. The Bullants were just above us on the ladder so we backed ourselves for another 4 points. We lost Martin to injury and Weller to the Blues but picked up McMahon from the Colts and Grandy back from his break.

Good start with McNidder kicking a long goal set-up by JT and Grandy. Even better when Grandy kicked long into space allowing Kingy to run onto the loose ball and kick our 2nd

Martinz smart kick to Kingy almost set-up the 3rd but the kick sailed wide. Kelliher marked strongly and set-up Nids but his kick missed the target this time.

The backline held-up well highlighted by Jabber’s 3 intercept marks. Good support by Oates, Lanigan, Barnett and Mounas kept them goal-less.

Quarter Time DLS 2-4-16 v Bullants 0-4-4

They controlled the ball in the air and pegged back the lead fairly quickly. We managed to stop the flow in the last 10 minutes and threaten the scoreboard but the damage was done with 4 goals to nil with the wind.

Loumatzis did some nice things but the highlight of the quarter was Hugo’s 50 meter sprint to win the ball in their forward line to stop a certain goal.

½ Time DLS 2-5-17 v Bullants 4-7-31

We managed to peg back the lead with the first 4 goals and get us back into the game. JT was massive with 2 powerful tackles at half back which both resulted in goals. The Chief lifted his output and found the goals along with a classy major by Grundy.

Kelleher was winning his wing and his run and carry was a highlight.

Unfortunately we coughed up goals late in the quarter with loose manning up.

¾ Time DLS 6-6-42 v Bullants 7-8-50

We threw McMahon into the ruck and JT to half back and implored the boys to keep the faith. We worked our butts off but were getting killed in the air. Losing Oates in the first half didn’t help as it robbed us of our key marking forward. Special credit to Harry Mounas who played very well all day.

The highlight was Bullard’s long goal into the breeze.
