Brian Waldron Snr
1.3.1928 – 6.1.2024

It is with great sadness that we let you know of the passing of one of De La’s longtime supporters and parents, in Brian Waldron Snr at age 95, father of past players Brian and Peter.

He was often seen in the mid-eighties on the boundary at Waverley Park with wife Margaret and his five daughters Mary, Gabrielle, Margaret, Barbara & Helen urging on the two boys.
The two boys played the odd game together during this period which gave the family a great interest in the club and the community they were such a big part of.

Brian Snr and Margaret made no small contribution to this community with their seven children producing 20 grandchildren & 20 great grandchildren. Makes for a largish Christmas gathering no doubt!

A St Kevins boy himself, Brian snr was somehow convinced to send his sons to De La Salle, a decision we don’t think he regretted, but it certainly gave him a lifelong interest, following the fortunes of the club long after his health would no longer allow him to get there.

In his professional life he served the community in a number of roles, as Victorian Commissioner of Corporate Affairs (1971-77), Auditor General of Victoria (1977-86) and from 1986-90 was the Chief International auditor for the ANZ bank.

He was awarded the medal of The Order of Australia for his services to the Community and Accounting in 1996. He lived a full life, saw De La win a couple of A Grade premierships, and had a hand in bringing 47 new personalities into the world. A very impressive contribution by anyone’s standards.

For the record, both Brian and Peter started at the club with the U/19 Blues and went on to play 120 & 110 games respectively. Both would have ongoing involvement with the club in an off-field capacity, Brian taking on the presidency from 2017-19. It is also worth noting that daughter Barbara got very caught up in the De La Salle scene, marrying Pat Green, who played 89 games, was a premiership player and great personality around the club. They would contribute 3 boys to the Waldron dynasty.
