It was great to have Paul Lourey’s brother and sister down last week as we named the Timekeepers Box in honour of Paul.
A much-loved De La stalwart, Paul passed away suddenly on October 24, 2022, aged 63.
For many years Paul was a friendly face that welcomed all who came through the club room doors, jumping in to volunteer wherever it was needed, always up for a chat; leaving an impression on many of those who got to know him.
He is fondly remembered for the many things he brought to the club and mostly for his loyalty, dedication and his gentle sense of humour.
Paul took on many roles during his years at the club, including Team Manager for the Under 19’s and Reserves, timekeeper, umpire escort, and goal umpire, across the Seniors and Reserves. He was also a recipient of the Best Clubperson.
As Marty Kelliher said at the time of his passing, ‘Paul was part of a diminishing breed in local clubs; with his willingness to assist others, put his hand up and volunteer, so that other people could have a great day playing and watching sport.’
We are honoured to be able to have a lasting reminder of Paul at Waverley Oval, with the naming of the Paul Lourey Timekeepers Box.
