Round 6 saw a second consecutive 100 point victory for the Colts boys and the debut of young prospect Luke Lyngberg for the club. With Angus Kerr a late out again, Ethan Hele heading across to help the Gold side out and star full back Eddie McMahon pulling out at quarter time due to illness, some may have been forgiven for doubting whether De La could put up a comprehensive performance.
Those doubts were put to rest immediately though as the Colts powered on to lead by just under 5 goals at quarter time, 10 goals at half time, 15 goals at 3/4 time and over 20 goals by the end of the game. Anderson was everywhere throughout the day, leading up and down the half-forward line, playing his best game of the season and ending with four goals. Pietschy also returned to his best and hit the scoreboard for the first time this season, going on to snag three for the day. Welling and Dannaoui led the midfield while Sinclair was a tackling machine. Martin rucked all day and Sheedy once again broke the lines and took the game on.
Complete credit must go to De La’s defensive unit as well, who for the third week in a row only conceded a mere 3 goals. They are working so well as a team but are also so strong in their 1 on 1 contests, giving us the best chance each week to kick the winning score. The highlight of the day no doubt though, was Lyngberg on debut kicking a massive 6 goals! His ability to contested mark and kick straight is an awesome addition to the Colts side.
The strength of the Colts side continues to be our depth and ability for different players to step up on different weeks when needed. This will be super important this week when we face off against Collegians who had a big win in their first Div 4 game.
