We played Ivanhoe out on The Boulevard desperate to notch up our first win for the year.
The opposition, who were also winless, came out firing with the first 4 goals before our boys decided to wake up. Thankfully they missed a few shots and we managed to get a late one on the board through the hard-running of Mikel Laomutzis.
Quarter Time 1-0-6 v Ivanhoe 4-4-28.
After a good old fashioned bake from the coach we looked like a different side in the 2nd quarter. Bullard went to Full Forward and had immediate impact with 2 goals. Hudson Grundy, who was struggling with his health put on a clinic with the other 2 goals, both from long range on tight angles.
Ganavas went into the ruck and gave the mids first use. The backline got organised led by new captain Jabber. Barnett was brave as usual alongside Lanigan, Duncan and Nikitas. LT lifted and combined well with McNidder, King and Jack.
Half-Time 4.7.37 v 5.1.37
The 3rd quarter was a classic arm wrestle with Ivanhoe kicking the first 3 goals before we responded with 3 of our own to Bullard, King and BJ.
3 Quarter Time 8.4.52 v Ivanhoe 7.11.53
The game was being played between the arcs with Ivanhoe dominated their half back with a spare defender and Jabber playing like Tom Stewart marking everything in our backline. This is where the game was won with our backs combining superbly and calmly switching to find targets.
Martinz gave us the lead with a clever goal but it was Stepho who sealed the win with a brilliant snap late in the quarter. Special mention to Ganavas who got more dominant as the game went on, McNidder who has no fear and Laomutzis who kept driving the ball forward with his penetrating left foot. New boy Harry Mounas also looked better as the game went on.
A gutsy win after losing a couple of good players before the bounce to the Blues and Covid.
Thanks to Declan, Jake, Reedy, Genghis, Teagan etc for helping out.
Result: DLSFC 10.6.66 vs Ivanhoe 7.14.56
