We went into this match against the undefeated Parkside with a spring in our step. Determined to put last week’s performance behind us, we were fielding our strongest side for the year.
On a drizzly morning Jabber won the toss and kicked to the scoring end with a slight breeze at our backs. The boys were fired up and outhunted the bigger, taller Parkside boys. The first goal was a brilliant team effort starting from the backline through Lanigan, JT, Jack, Martin, & Bullard who gave off to LT who snapped truly. Strong tackling esp by Kelleher, Hele, Barnett and McNidder resulted in another shot for goal, this time by Big Brad Abraham.
Their umpire decided to take it upon himself and even up the score with some dubious free kicks. Still at the quarter time break we had a 1 goal lead.
Parkside hit back in the 2nd quarter kicking 4 goals to nil with the wind.
Half Time Parkside 5-7-37 v DLS 2-3-15
The boys battled hard in a scrappy 2nd half especially JT who is like a battering ram and Ethan Hele who looks like he is destined for a spot in the seniors before too long. Sam Martin was impressive in his first game back from injury and Hugo Jack only knows one way.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the fitness to challenge the top teams for 4 quarters at this stage.
Result: 13-12-90 v DLS 3-4-22
