Match Report

Perfect conditions with slight breeze favouring the Glenhuntly Rd end (sorry but used the long standing spelling) to which Marcellin were kicking.

Ben Mannix marked spectacularly (is there any other way?) & goaled from the square within the 1st 6 minutes of the game. From there on Marcellin dominated & took a substantial lead of 27 points to the ½ time break: 5.5-35 : Dinos 1.2-8

Coach “Georgie” urged his players to believe they were still in this game. He said we have been here before & came out on top. Play more direct & don’t go wide at EP.

After the initial dominance, Marcellin’s intensity dropped off noticeably. Will Fenton’s long goal mid way through the quarter was the Dinos 2nd about 35 minutes after its 1st in Q1. The Dinos were too fast for the tiring Marcellin and when Fenton again goaled from a mark just before the ¾ time siren, the Dinos trailed by only a couple of points at ¾ time.

Ben Corin had been moved into the ruck at ½ time & this move was decisive. BC’s strength at the centre bounce provided easy clearance to the forwards. Then it became the Cory “chook” Wilson show as he slammed on 4 goals each from differing situations i.e 1 was from a smart mark, give & receive back to goal on the run & the 2nd , 30 seconds later was a Sam Kerr special. When Ben Mannix’s long bomb torpedo just glanced the base on the goal post, the strong Dinos crowd erupted. With the premiership secured. Cory was awarded “best on ground” by the field umpires.

So after ½ time the Dinos added 53 points to Marcellin’s 10!
